PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Model Block project, located within the Heart of Boynton and Poinciana Gardens neighborhood is the result of the successful collaboration between the BBCRA and the City of Boynton Beach to revitalize an entire residential block directly south of Poinciana Elementary School between NW 11th Avenue and NW 10th Avenue.

Since the beginning of the project in 2012, the BBCRA and the City have partnered with Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County and the Boynton Beach Faith Based Community Development Corporation (CDC) to construct and deliver a total of sixteen (16) new affordable single-family homes.

Phase I of the project began with acquisition and development of six single family affordable homes and streetscape improvements on NW 10th Avenue.  These new homes were constructed and sold to income eligible buyers by Habitat for Humanity and the Boynton Beach Faith Based CDC.

Phase II of the project commenced in June of  2018 and was completed in April of 2019 when the BBCRA contributed $12,817.63 as a match to funding provided by the City of Boynton Beach for road improvements and underground utilities on NW 11th Avenue. The three BBCRA-owned vacant properties located on NW 11th Avenue were transferred to the City to facilitate the redevelopment process since these lots, combined with the City-owned lots, needed be replatted to create ten new single-family lots. Five of the ten lots were subsequently transferred to Habitat for Humanity and remaining five to the Boynton Beach Faith Based CDC for development of affordable single-family housing.

The construction of the ten single family homes on NW 11th Avenue commenced on August 8, 2019. As of October 2022, the homes are completed and owner-occupied.
