PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
In September 2017, the Boynton Woman’s Club offered to sell the property and building to the BBCRA for $110,000. In light of diminishing membership and high costs associated with maintaining a building of this size, the Boynton Woman’s Club felt it was important for an entity like the BBCRA to be the one to take ownership and continue operations. The BBCRA Board approved the purchase of the historic and iconic Addison Mizner designed community event venue. Listed on the National Historic Register, this two-story, Mediterranean Revival style building, was constructed in 1926 and was dedicated to the memory of the City’s founder, Major Nathan S. Boynton in 1932. Over the past 92 years under the ownership of the Boynton Woman's Club, the building has been the community’s home for many civic activities, social events, family gatherings, musicals, lectures, and even weekend yoga retreats.
The BBCRA became the owner of the newly named Historic Woman’s Club of Boynton Beach in October 2017. The Agency immediately began making much needed repairs to the aging building by installing a new clay barrel tile roof, refinishing the wood floors as well as painting the interior and exterior of the building.
In March 2021, the BBCRA transferred the property to the City of Boynton Beach for its continued renovation and operation. The City is honored to own this significant piece of Boynton's history and to continue its long-standing operation in our community.
